Peshawar Mosque Attack
A deadly blast in a synagogue in Peshawar on Monday, the rearmost attack on the megacity in northwest Pakistan, killed at least 61 people and left about 157 injured, according to Peshawar Police Chief Mohammad Aijaz Khan.
Deliverance operations are now underway in the synagogue , which is positioned inside a police emulsion and is substantially attended by law enforcement officers.
In a statement to CNN, Khan, the Peshawar police chief, before said the incident inside the Police Lines Mosque was “ presumably a self-murder attack, ” echoing Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
“ Terrorists want to produce fear by targeting those who perform the duty of defending Pakistan, ” the high minister continued.
A “ comprehensive strategy ” is in the workshop in order to restore law and order in the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa fiefdom, where Peshawar is located, Sharif also said.
Clashing accounts have surfaced about who's behind the attack. A spokesperson for the Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehreek-e-Taliban( TTP), Muhammad Khorasani, has denied any involvement in the attack.
Khorasani said in a statement late Monday.
He didn't note on earlier statements by TTP officers Sarbakaf Mohmand and Omar Mukaram Khurasani, who had claimed the blast was “ vengeance ” for the death of TTP militant Khalid Khorasani last time.
The TTP is a US- designated foreign terrorist association operating in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Pakistan authorities say an disquisition is underway, and haven't verified either claim.
‘ You ca n’t underrate the resoluteness of our people ’
“ Just returned from Peshawar. The sheer scale of the mortal tragedy is unconceivable. This is no lower than an attack on Pakistan. I've no doubt terrorism is our foremost public security challenge, ” Sharif posted on Twitter.
“ My communication to the perpetrators of moment’s despicable incident is that you can’t underrate the resoluteness of our people, ” he added.
Former leader Pakistani Imran Khan also condemned the blast, saying in a tweet that “ it is imperative we ameliorate our intelligence gathering & duly equip our police forces to combat the growing trouble of terrorism. ”
Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf holds the parochial government of Khyber Pakhtunkwa.
